A small Fortune.
Riot has released gameplay of Ruined King, the single-player League of Legends spin-off.
Ruined King: A League of Legends Story, to give it its full title, is developed by Airship Syndicate (Battle Chasers: Nightwar, Darksiders Genesis), and published under Riot’s Forge label. It’s due out on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store at some point in 2021.
The video below reveals Ruined King to be a turn-based RPG that revolves around Bilgewater and the Shadow Isles. Announced Champions include Miss Fortune, Illaoi, Braum, Pyke, Ahri, and Yasuo.
You can explore the world, dealing with traps and puzzles and uncovering secrets as you battle enemies and monsters. There are friendly NPCs to chat to as well. Riot said some puzzles or secrets can only be solved with specific champions, like breaking weak walls with Braum’s shield or revealing stealth enemies with Ahri’s Orb.
As for the combat, Ruined King uses a turn-based, lane initiative combat system. Champions take turns casting lane, instant, and ultimate abilities. Champions can also use items, and have passive abilities. There’s health, mana, an overcharge bar and a turn order list. You can level up the Champions, improving their stats as you do.
Speaking of Champions, expect them to perform the traditional roles seen in most RPGs. The idea is you mix and match to create a good blend for combat.
Our Chris Tapsell interviewed the head of Riot Forge, Leanne Lombe, plus Airship Syndicate CEO Joe Madureira about Ruined King back in October if you want to know more.
