The Tomb Raider: Catalyst team has confirmed where the upcoming game sits in the series timeline.
According to game director Will Kerslake, Catalyst – which will see the globe trotting Lara Croft heading to Northern India – takes place after Tomb Raider: Underworld. That’s the game where Lara pops along to Helheim whilst wielding Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir.
“From a timeline perspective, Tomb Raider: Catalyst is set years after the events of Tomb Raider: Underworld,” Kerslake told GamesRadar+. He added the more recently concluded Survivor reboot trilogy, which saw Lara taking on Trinity in the likes of Siberia and South America, will still serve as Lara’s origin story.
“So we’re seeing a more experienced Lara Croft,” the Catalyst developer said, before adding you won’t need to have played or hold a deep knowledge of the other Tomb Raider games to be able to follow along.
“What’s important to know is that this is a new chapter in Tomb Raider,” he stated. “So whether you followed Lara from the start, or this is your first Tomb Raider game, Tomb Raider: Catalyst is designed to stand on its own as an adventure that can be enjoyed by everyone.”

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is due to release next year, while Tomb Raider: Catalyst will be arriving on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Steam in 2027.
Over the weekend, Lara Croft actress Camilla Luddington passed her bow and arrows over to Alix Wilton Regan, sharing a farewell post to the character she had embodied for 10 years. “The Survivor Trilogy was a decade of adventure I will never ever forget,” Luddington wrote. “I could not be prouder of what we created.”
