One of Elden Ring’s most substantial free mods now has complete FromSoftware-style online multiplayer

FromSoftware’s Elden Ring has inspired a whole load of mods offering substantial overhauls of the game, and now one of those mods has received a 2.0 update that adds multiplayer to complete the experience.

Elden Ring Reforged has already been around for a couple of years, offering a drastically revised version of FromSoftware’s RPG. It makes a tonne of improvements to the base game, large and small, from new mechanics like deflecting and ducking, to Runeforging for passive effects, the Codex of the All-Knowing for details on enemies, difficulty options, and new weapons, bosses, and spells among other changes.

However, mods aren’t allowed when playing Elden Ring in the usual manner, making multiplayer difficult. Now, with the 2.0 release, the Elden Ring Reforged team has created a custom server allowing for full FromSoftware-style multiplayer, complete with co-op and invasions, summon signs, and messages.

Invasions are only possible in dungeon areas, rather than the overworld, which the team believes will create “more interesting invasion spaces where players may use the environment and enemies to their advantage”.

Further, those who participate in multiplayer will receive reward coins that can be traded for rewards. The mod also extends the Roundtable Hold with a new area called The Gilded Court, which now functions as a duelling hub.

In addition to multiplayer, Elden Ring Reforged 2.0 includes plenty more. There’s an entirely new dungeon area, the Serpentine Depths, that explores the origins of Praetor Rykard; it adds a sliding move for evading attacks; there are new spells, weapons, and spirit ashes; and lots of smaller tweaks and balance changes.

It’s a substantial update to what is already an impressive reworking of the game. But the addition of multiplayer now makes it a complete experience worthy of the game’s original studio.

Elden Ring Reforged is available to download on Nexus Mods if you’re interested in checking it out for yourself. It’s completely free.

Elden Ring certainly has legs, with modders still tinkering away with changes. FromSoftware itself is working on the Switch 2 version – it was delayed last month into 2026 to “allow time for performance adjustments”.

Last week, FromSoftware parent company Kadokawa revealed multiplayer spin-off Nightreign will receive DLC by the end of this financial year (March 2026), while Switch 2 exclusive The Duskbloods is still planned for release next year.
