Wow, it’s hard to believe it’s been 20 years since the Xbox 360 released and gave the games industry a proper shake-up. With SEGA gone as a platform holder and Nintendo floundering as Sony seized power, Xbox took its opportunity to get the jump on PlayStation, releasing the Xbox 360 as the first console of that generation a year before the PS3 (and in some territories, that gap was even bigger). And it worked. Xbox 360 got off to a flying start, backed by some brilliant exclusive games and an industry leading online multiplayer offering.

Things weren’t always smooth (Red Ring of Death anyone?), but by and large the Xbox 360 is remembered with a large degree of fondness by anyone who owned one. A console that took the fight to Sony and almost came away victorious.

This week we’ve got loads of Xbox 360 coverage for you to read, looking at some of the key games, our own memories, and a special chat with the man many people picture when the Xbox 360 is brought up. Maybe one of us should have gotten a tattoo of his face as a bit of promotional work? Damn, I have all the good ideas too late.

Head over to our Xbox 360 20th anniversary hub for all the articles as they go live.
