Two Budget GPUs Reach for 4K
AMD’s Radeon RX 9060 XT and Intel’s Arc B580 sit at opposite ends of the budget GPU conversation, but both cards have been making a case for themselves well above their price bracket. Testing them at 4K rasterization puts that case under real pressure.

What Each Card Brings to the Test
The RX 9060 XT launches on AMD’s RDNA 4 architecture, featuring 32 compute units and either 8GB or 16GB of GDDR6 memory on a 128-bit bus. The memory configuration matters a great deal at 4K, where texture assets and frame buffers eat into available VRAM aggressively. AMD has squeezed notable efficiency improvements out of RDNA 4 compared to RDNA 3, and the 9060 XT benefits from that work even at the lower end of the stack. Clock speeds sit comfortably above 3GHz in boost, which helps compensate for the narrower memory bus.
Intel’s Arc B580 runs on the Battlemage architecture with 20 Xe2 cores, 12GB of GDDR6 on a 192-bit bus, and a price tag that has made it genuinely hard to ignore since launch. The wider memory bus and larger VRAM pool give the B580 a structural advantage when GPU memory becomes the limiting factor – and at 4K, that happens more often than most people expect from cards in this tier. Intel has also continued pushing driver improvements that measurably affect performance in rasterization workloads, so benchmark results from six months ago may not tell the whole story.
On paper, the 9060 XT’s architectural efficiency competes directly with the B580’s memory bandwidth advantage. At 1080p and 1440p, those two variables rarely produce a clear winner across every title. At 4K, the calculus shifts. Frame buffers grow, texture streaming becomes more demanding, and the card with more headroom in memory capacity tends to hold a more consistent lead rather than trading blows game by game.
Driver maturity is also part of this comparison in a way that it rarely is when testing two GPUs from the same generation of a single manufacturer. Intel’s Arc drivers had a rocky reputation at launch, but Battlemage brought a much cleaner experience, and ongoing updates have continued closing gaps in compatibility and stability. AMD’s drivers for RDNA 4 have been solid from the start on the rasterization side. Neither card is walking into this test with a software liability hanging over it.

4K Rasterization Performance Across Titles
Testing at native 4K without upscaling strips away the marketing layer and shows what each GPU can actually do with raw rasterization throughput. In titles like Cyberpunk 2077 with ray tracing disabled, the RX 9060 XT and Arc B580 trade positions depending on how aggressively the game loads VRAM. At settings that keep memory usage below 10GB, the two cards are close enough that the margin falls within run-to-run variance. Push beyond that threshold and the B580’s 12GB buffer becomes a practical advantage rather than a spec sheet number.
Alan Wake 2 at 4K high settings is one of the more punishing rasterization tests available right now, and it is where the memory disparity shows most clearly. The B580 holds a more consistent frame rate across longer play sessions because it does not need to offload assets as aggressively. The 8GB variant of the RX 9060 XT struggles more than the 16GB variant in this title specifically – which makes the version you buy matter significantly for 4K use cases. If you are considering the 9060 XT for a 4K setup, the 8GB model is the wrong choice.
In less memory-intensive workloads, the picture changes. Counter-Strike 2, Valorant, and older titles that were designed before 4K textures became standard tend to favor the RX 9060 XT’s raw compute throughput. RDNA 4’s efficiency improvements show up in frame times as much as average fps, and in competitive titles where consistency matters more than peak numbers, the 9060 XT delivers a slightly cleaner experience. That said, none of these titles are scenarios where anyone is choosing a card specifically for 4K performance – they run well on almost anything at that resolution.
Hogwarts Legacy and Black Myth: Wukong both sit in the middle of the spectrum. The 16GB RX 9060 XT and the Arc B580 are within five percent of each other across most settings in these titles, with neither card establishing a commanding lead. What matters more in extended testing is thermal behavior. The B580 runs warmer under sustained 4K loads, which can trigger throttling in cases where case airflow is suboptimal. The RX 9060 XT’s power envelope is slightly more conservative, which keeps performance more stable over longer sessions even in warmer environments.
Frame time consistency is worth separating from average fps, because at 4K the difference between a smooth 45fps and a stuttery 45fps is very noticeable on a large display. Both cards perform reasonably well in this area, but the B580 shows occasional micro-stutter spikes in a handful of DX12 titles that AMD’s card does not replicate. This appears to be a driver-level behavior rather than a hardware limitation, and Intel may address it in future updates. For now, it is a real-world consideration for anyone gaming at 4K where frame pacing irregularities are easier to spot.
Value and Who Should Buy What
The Arc B580 makes more structural sense for 4K gaming between these two options, specifically because of its 12GB VRAM and wider memory bus. The VRAM advantage is not theoretical at this resolution – it directly affects which titles run smoothly and which ones start showing asset loading issues or frame rate dips during scene transitions. If 4K rasterization is the primary use case, the B580 is the more capable card, and that holds true even when the RX 9060 XT’s RDNA 4 architecture pulls ahead in raw compute on lighter workloads.

Where this gets complicated is pricing and availability. The 16GB RX 9060 XT, which is the version that actually competes with the B580 at 4K, carries a higher price than the 8GB model and puts it much closer to the Arc B580’s street price. At that point, the question is not just which GPU benchmarks better – it is whether AMD’s software ecosystem, FSR 4 support, and driver consistency are worth a marginal rasterization trade-off against the B580’s memory advantage. For buyers who also game at 1440p or 1080p frequently, the 9060 XT is the more flexible card. For buyers whose monitor is a 4K display and nothing else, the B580’s extra VRAM gives it a ceiling that the 8GB 9060 XT simply cannot match.
