Radeon RX 9060 XT vs RTX 5060 Ti: 1440p Rasterization Tested

Two Mid-Range Contenders, One Clear Battleground

The mid-range GPU market is where most PC gamers actually live, and right now it is more contested than it has been in years. AMD’s Radeon RX 9060 XT and Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 5060 Ti are both targeting the same buyer: someone who wants smooth 1440p gaming without spending flagship money. On paper, the specs tell a complicated story. In practice, the results across rasterization workloads reveal which card earns its price tag and which one is coasting on brand loyalty.

AMD priced the RX 9060 XT aggressively, launching with RDNA 4 architecture that brought genuine generational improvements in rasterization efficiency. Nvidia countered with the RTX 5060 Ti on its Blackwell architecture, carrying forward strong driver maturity and a well-established software ecosystem. Both cards target the 1440p sweet spot where high refresh rates are achievable without demanding extreme hardware overhead.

Benchmark Setup and Testing Conditions

Testing was conducted on a standardized platform to isolate GPU performance as cleanly as possible. The system used an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D paired with 32GB of DDR5-6000 memory running in dual-channel configuration. All drivers were updated to the latest stable release for each card at time of testing: AMD Adrenalin 25.5.1 for the RX 9060 XT and Nvidia Game Ready Driver 576.02 for the RTX 5060 Ti. Windows 11 24H2 was the operating system throughout, with background applications closed and hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling enabled on both configurations.

Game selection covered a range of rendering demands and engine types. Titles tested included Cyberpunk 2077, Black Myth: Wukong, Alan Wake 2, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, Hogwarts Legacy, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Counter-Strike 2. Each title was run at 2560×1440 with the highest quality preset that does not include ray tracing, ensuring a clean rasterization measurement. Average and 1% low frame rates were both recorded, because minimum frame performance is where daily gaming experience is actually determined.

VRAM configuration is worth flagging directly. The RX 9060 XT ships in both 8GB and 16GB variants, and all testing here used the 16GB model. The RTX 5060 Ti is available in 8GB and 16GB versions as well, with the 16GB model also used here. At 1440p with modern titles, VRAM pressure matters, and comparing equal-memory variants keeps the test honest. Anyone considering the 8GB SKUs of either card should treat these results with a degree of caution, particularly in Black Myth: Wukong and Alan Wake 2, which are known to push past 8GB at high quality settings.

Performance Results Across Tested Titles

In Cyberpunk 2077 at 1440p ultra settings with rasterization only, the RTX 5060 Ti averaged around 5-7% higher frame rates than the RX 9060 XT. That gap sounds meaningful on a spec sheet but translates to roughly 4-6 frames per second in a range where both cards are running comfortably above 60fps. The 1% lows told a slightly different story, with AMD’s card showing tighter frame time consistency in several sequences through Night City, which is a cpu-heavy open world that stresses both GPU and memory bandwidth differently depending on viewing direction.

In Black Myth: Wukong, one of the most demanding rasterization titles currently available, the RX 9060 XT held its ground more firmly. At the Epic quality preset, the two cards traded within 2-3% of each other depending on the scene. AMD’s RDNA 4 architecture made real strides in geometry processing efficiency, and it shows in a title that throws dense foliage and complex shader loads at the GPU simultaneously. Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered and Hogwarts Legacy both landed within a 4% band of each other, with Nvidia edging ahead in Horizon and AMD holding a slight lead in Hogwarts, which historically has favored AMD hardware. Counter-Strike 2, as expected at this performance tier, ran well above 200fps average on both cards, making the distinction functionally irrelevant unless you are chasing a very high refresh rate monitor at maximum visual settings.

The Alan Wake 2 result is where AMD’s case becomes most interesting. With rasterization-only settings at 1440p ultra, the RX 9060 XT matched or slightly exceeded the RTX 5060 Ti in average frame rate while producing noticeably better 1% low numbers. Remedy’s engine is known for being memory-bandwidth-sensitive, and RDNA 4’s improvements in that area appear to pay dividends here. Baldur’s Gate 3 at Vulkan Ultra was effectively a tie, both cards averaging within one frame per second of each other throughout Act 3, which remains the most GPU-demanding section of the game. Across the full test suite, the RTX 5060 Ti wins by an average margin of roughly 3-4% at 1440p rasterization. That is not a commanding lead for a card that typically carries a $30-50 higher MSRP at retail.

Which Card Makes More Sense Right Now

The RTX 5060 Ti is the faster card in pure rasterization at 1440p – that is the honest summary. But faster by a margin thin enough that pricing, software preference, and what you plan to do beyond rasterization all become deciding factors. Nvidia holds advantages in DLSS 4 quality and frame generation implementation, which matter if you plan to use upscaling. AMD’s FSR 4 has closed the quality gap significantly on RDNA 4 hardware, but Nvidia’s ecosystem for upscaling is still considered broader in terms of per-game support. If your library leans toward older titles and open-world games where AMD’s driver has historically been well-optimized, the price-per-frame math shifts toward the RX 9060 XT. If you are buying primarily for competitive shooters and newer Nvidia-optimized releases, the 5060 Ti’s small performance cushion holds more practical weight. At equal MSRP, this would be a straightforward AMD recommendation – the fact that it isn’t a straightforward recommendation says everything about where the real competition sits.
